Joe Monk’s Arrangements

We would like to continue his legacy by providing a collection of his beautiful guitar arrangements.

Stories

“It was wonderful getting some of Joe Monk’s chorded arrangements at the website. I remember sitting down with him for a lesson; he would get pensive for a few moments and then without a word launch into a serene version of Misty or Darn That Dream. I remember weeping once or twice his playing was so beautiful and being terrified that he would ask me to try to play it. The stuff I learned from Joe Monk did more than anything else to make me the musician I am today. I never did hear him gig so I’m looking forward to hearing the CD.”

Joe Sinreich, Student Late 50’s into the 60’s

“I was just a youth when I studied with Joe, but I immensely enjoyed working out his arrangements. At one of my last lessons with him, he was obviously impressed and moved by the effort I had out into one of his pieces, probably ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ or another of his heavy arrangements, complete with the accompanying “invention.” I’ve never forgotten his comment… “you should make a record one day….Fred Scholl plays the music of Joe Monk. I hope to have the opportunity to record some of his arrangements eventually. “

The Scholarship

Our goal is to foster, in the guitar student, personal growth and maturity as a result of caring for and practicing on a classic American arch top guitar which was totally manufactured in the United States.
